The above two scarves were made by me, the next two by friends.

I am interested in the unexpected: the relationships between shapes or images that surprise me; that conjure something not seen before. I often work intuitively from a picture in my mind’s eye, or a fragment of text.
My images are sometimes representational but abstracted, and tend towards the whimsical. Themes come from the ordinary life. In my monotypes, colour and shape can be major subjects, and because the power of words continues to impress me, my work often contains text.
My interest in storytelling has led me to make books. I am interested in both familiar and discovered stories. My books are usually sequential though occasionally offer alternative narrative structures.

You've really gotten into the felting - must have a good source of wool. We're going to Taos this October for the 'wool festival' there! Staying outside of Santa Fe.
Hi Sara,
Wonderful scarves you made.
Do you still teaching Printing with solar plates? I bought a small press to use my solar plates I made in your lessons, but it is quite frustrating as the prints are like ghosts :(
All the best,
Sara (from Portugal)
Hi Sara,
I am now living in Canada and teaching mostly book arts but occasionally Solarplate. If your press is only giving you a ghost image it means the press isn't tight enough and exerting enough pressure. Try putting an extra blanket on it.
It's great to hear from you. Keep in touch.
Sara
